A set of twelve paintings illustrating the life of Abraham Lincoln. Most of these drawings were executed in 1898, however the original set of nine slides was enlarged to twelve drawings. Studying by Fire Light, Splitting Fence Rails, and At Slave Auction in New Orleans were added in 1917.

According to Terry Borton Nisle was hired in 1860 by the Langenheim Brothers, whose business Briggs bought in 1874. He was sometimes referered to as Neslie, Nislie or Nesle. He is the only named artist working for the Langenheims.
