Spectropia; or, surprising spectral illusions. Showning Ghosts everywhere and of any color (B68)contains 16 images, each capable of creating an afterimage. Afterimages are optical illusions, in this case produced by staring at the image for 20-60 seconds and then looking at a blank page or closing ones eyes and seeing the retained image appear on the blank space.

The staring overloads the eye's receptors for one set of colors, and when the load is removed, the opposite set of receptors will temporarily take over to fill the "burned in" area, producing a color-reversed afterimage.
