Box lid demonstrates how the viewer doesn't need a mirror but uses the double disc handle to put a blank disc on one edge and an illustrated image on the other and then can view the motion by spinning the handle and looking through the blank, slotted disc.

Six plates by Muybridge from his broader study, done with the University of Pennsylvania, on Animal Locomotion. Muybridge had the Zoopraxiscope built as a projecting phenakistascope. He used these drawings, transfered to glass discs to be projected.

The Ludoscope

A boxed set with eleven discs.The Ludoscope requires no mirror. A plain slotted disc and the painted card were twirled together.  The illusion of motion was  created by viewing  the designs on the card through the slotted disc.
